A strange word,
FREEDOM.
It beguiles,
Deludes,
Misleads,
Encourages,
Separates,
Divides,
Unites,
And
Heals.
—
In a world where acceptance rules,
FREEDOM dwells;
Understanding flourishes;
Toleration becomes a border;
Delusions vanish;
Community evolves.
—
Freedom walks,
In a world where acceptance rules,
And fear dissipates.
Freedom speaks out,
People listen and dance to their own beat
In Unity,
Which encourages,
And community evolves.
—
Freedom loves,
In a world where acceptance rules,
Without chains,
But demands consequences,
Responsibility,
Commitment,
Dedication,
Loyalty,
Trust,
Reliability,
And faithfulness.
—
When freedom exists,
Prejudices take flight,
Respect marches in,
The Creation breathes easier,
The Spirit, the tiny funk deposited in us surfaces,
And fences come down,
Communication erupts like Mount Etna,
Wars cease,
Children no longer die young,
Women dance in the streets,
Men rise above their differences,
And Community evolves.

Thank you my dear Gwynn. The photo was taken in Freystadt, Germany, last year in October. I visited this tiny little village. It was on Saturday and all the stores close at one p.m. in most of the villages. This scene of the street almost barely empty fascinated me.

Beautiful and pertinent poem, Patricia. Beautiful photo, too. Where is it? I love cobblestones — reminiscent of my home town, Philadelphia, birthplace of the freedom of our nation. Where is this a picture of? And what is October 14? Is that your birthday?

Thank you my dear Samantha. The photo is a picture I took when I visited Freystadt, Germany last year in October. Freystadt is a quaint little village I believe you would love. If you love cobblestones, then you will see lots of cobblestones streets in the villages in Germany. My reference to October 14th has to do with the rhythm of when I post an article. I am much too busy to post every day or week, so I have discovered my own rhythm and that is posting every two weeks. That gives people also a chance to visit the site and read the poem when they have time, because it remains my featured post for two weeks.

Ah, yes, the every two weeks writing plan. I agree and am working within that structure. It is hard to find time to keep up with everybody else’s blogs and write your own. I would not expect readers to visit my site every few days, not in this time when everybody’s blogging.

Ah, just lovely Patricia, elegant in very way, for its truth, shape and form. Along with Freedom comes accountability as you imply, by way of being aware of consequences, intended or not..Sometimes I wonder if we need to fight for freedom – a strange paradox – but nevertheless its worth fighting for.
Your poem is very powerful – may it reach out to the world for its hope.
