Walk On

The Champions Who Walked Among Us

And The Walls Came Tumbling Down

Mahalia Jackson sang, Joshua fit de Battle of Jericho, and her rendition of the song and the way she breathed life and spirit into the words with her voice made her famous all over the world.  Today, here in Europe, people still listen to Mahalia Jackson, and if you were to ask them who is the  gospel or spiritual singer they have heard of, they would probably say Mahalia Jackson.   I mention Mahalia, not because I compare myself to her, because I would have a long way to go to even get half way to what she  accomplished and left behind for future generations.  No, my mind is on the last part of the sentence in the  song, And The Walls Came Tumbling Down.

I  compare those walls tumbling down to the career of any writer.  We start out writing, some very early in life, others later.  We write with the hope that one of these days the wall will crack so  we are able to write, live and eat from what we love and devote the energy within to the creative ideas, which reveal themselves in our spirits. I say spirit because it is the Spirit that gives words life. Words without life are meaningless.

Tonight, I am sitting here writing an update about what has taken place  in my own life concerning two of my blogs, Walk On and Wind, Rain, Winding Roads & Sunshine, the -By-Ways of Life.

Recently, I was spotlighted by Morgen Bailey. She did an excellent job because the afterglow from the spotlight has knocked a tiny dent in the wall.  I still cannot write, live and eat from my writing, but people are beginning to notice  I am somewhere out there. Thanks to the Morgen’s spotlight, Siggy Buckley approached me and let me know  she likes what I write and wants to help.  The stretched out hand to help me came from an unexpected corner and tonight my eleventh article on The Champions Who Walked Among Us series entitled,  The Ice Breaker, is being featured on Writers Getting Together, and I thought about Mahalia’s song, And The Walls Came Tumbling Down.

Many of you may not know it, but I have a blog on TypePad too. It was my very first blog, and  my step into the unknown. It was also  one of the blogs featured on my  author’s  spotlight  done by  Morgen.  Yesterday, I started a new series on that blog.  It is different from my champion series on women that I write on my Walk On blog.   The Chosen is a series, which deals with my own relationship to the Bible.  Please don’t get scared  and run from me, because I am not trying to preach at you.   My main purpose in this series  is to let people in on why I am the way I am and give them a glance of where I get my will to keep pushing forward.  Therefore, it was necessary to introduce the series with an article about my own feelings towards the Bible,  as well as, published the first article about my chosen topic at the same time. The first two articles concerning The Chosen series, are published, and I thought again on Mahalia’s song, And The Walls Came  Tumbling Down.

Step by step, little by little, dent by dent, a crack will take place. I don’t know when, but I do know  one thing, when it happens, I will think about Mahalia’s song––And The Wall Came Tumbling Down.

Lovely Patricia, the walls are a great anology for a writer. I like to think that several years ago I climbed my wall and peeked over the top, I saw a future stretching out to the horizon. But my hold was slippery and I fell back. It couldn’t be scaled again so I had to break it down piece by piece. Every word created a crack, every sentence the mortar fell away, every paragraph a block fell and the light shone through from the other side. Now my writing future is being revealed and it’s looking good.
    Cheers
    Laurie.

    • My Dear Laurie,
Thank you for your rmarks and especially for your observations. Yes, we writers are led down unusual paths. That your hold was slippery, so that you fell back was because you were not ready at the time to write as you do now. So many people write books that are only theory, void of wisdom and experience. If you were to ask them have they ever tried or lived by any of the things they write, they would say no, but they expect others to read their book and follow it. I truly believe that good leaders are good followers because they have followed and been their before. And so it is with writers. Good and great writers write from their experience and their wisdom and the words flow out of their hearts, because they have been there before and people who read their books feel a bond that connects them.
And so is it with you. The steps that you have taken to dismantle the wall have reveal the rose. I like the way you said it, every word created a crack, with every sentence the mortar fell away, with every paragraph a block fell and the light shone through on the other side. My friend, I rejoice with you. Let your light shine, because here is one friend’s path your light is brightening.

      Love you, Laurie.
      Ciao,
      Patricia
